exposed rafter tails
SoftPlan Version:
2014

Can anybody please direct me to a past forum, if there is one, on how to show exposed rafter tails in a 3-D rendering? I tried stick framing the roof with 2x but couldn't get the look I wanted, that look is a Spanish colonial style with rough sawn exposed rafter tails or fake add on tails with a bull nose end. The tail is to be 4" to 6" thick with a 16" to 24" overhang with no fascia board or subfascia.  Would i use beams at a slope for the rafters so that I can add a profile to the end? If so that seems like it would be time consuming to set up.  If anyone has an answer I would appreciate it very much. Thanks, Zonak

Beams would be the way to go. Just draw in a beam at the center of the wall, edit and apply the profile end, select "Fit top of beam to roof" then copy 24" and set the number to how many copies you want. It just takes a few minutes.

that's exactly what I ended up doing and it was a lot easier than I thought. Thanks for the response.
