I am using 2012 and wondering the best way to create a cupola?
2D, 3D, or both. I would really need to see an example of what it is you are trying to create. Cupolas come in all shapes and sizes. Do you have a drawing or picture or anything to go by?

3d i have attached a pdf file
It wouldn't be that difficult. Start out by drawing a rectangular area using walls. View the cupola in 3D and set the offset of the cupola walls to get the desired height. Then add the appropriate size windows on each side. The banding below the windows and be done using Draw-> Banding. Select the appropriate profile and draw the band around the cupola. Adjust the offset of the banding while watching in 3D to get the proper height. Do the same thing for the crown/fascia at the top. For the roof you will need to create a custom roof profile and select the type of roof to profile. Select your custom roof profile and adjust to proper height and width.
Give it a shot and come back if you get stuck on any specific part. After you have done 1 or 2 of these they are actually quite simple, although a bit time consuming to set up everything correctly for 3D.
I did one earlier this year and treated it like it was the 3rd floor on a 2 story
thanks Farwood, I was wondering if that's the best way to do it.
Thanks Bill, that help,
