Walls not fitting to roof
SoftPlan Version:
2014 Plus

Here's a screenshot of my latest problem.  I have an attached garage - via a small open porch - with a truss roof, all four walls are set to 8'.  The top of the porch wall lines up with the top of the garage walls.  When I try to Fit Wall to Roof on the gable ends, they shoot up through the roof.  Also notice that the end dimensions are not 8', in fact they're two different dimensions.  I can get the siding to Fit to Soffit, but the drywall still pokes through.  This is a custom defined wall, so I set the drywall to Fixed (8')  to no avail.  The wall definition isn't really complex, I just changed the siding and drywall definition from a standard 2x4 exterior wall.

By the way, how do I put a 24" round window up at the top of the gable, assuming I can get this first problem fixed.

Thanks for being there!

Window

Paul, not sure what is causing your walls to go up through the roof, have you tried resetting the gabel end wall back to the same

height as the garage side walls, then filleting the corners to ensure they are all connecting correctly at then corners then try the

fit to roof command again ?  Is it possible you adjusted the heel height on the roof after you did a fit to roof on the gable end wall ?

With respect to the window edit the edge of the roof in question check the box that says to add a gable vent then in elevation edit

the gable vent and change it to a round window.

I have experienced the same

I have experienced the same thing before -you can manually edit the wall height.

OK, latest screenshot shows

OK, latest screenshot shows where I am now.  I adjusted the siding to Fit to Soffit, and Fixed the height of the drywall to 8'.  This solves the problem of the walls through the roof.  Now that I think about it, the trusses would be the framing, and the drywall should end at the ceiling anyway.

Unfortunately, the Fit to Soffit command stops the siding at the porch soffit.  So I deleted the porch soffit at the beam edge.  There never was a soffit on the intersecting porch wall.  Any thoughts?

If I manually adjust the heights in Multi-height do I have to know the height of the ridge, or will SoftPlan figure that out?

Thanks for the info on getting the window in the gable end.

Siding Fit To Roof Or Soffit

Paul, are you able to temporarily adjusting the porch roof away from the garage wall then hit the garage wall again

telling it to adjust to roof or adjust to soffit.   Once it is correct then uncheck cleanup ( I think it's under the Common

Tab in the Wall Edit Menu ) so the wall or siding doesn't continue to try to cleanup to the porch soffit.   Then adjust

the porch roof back to where you want it.
