System vs Drawing Options
SoftPlan Version:
2014

If I start a new plan, it will be configured as per the system options.  IF I decide to change the System options of, say, a wall covering, will it automatically change my drawing options or do I have to make changes to drawing options, remember what I did and then make the change to the system options for future drawings.  (Assuming that I want to make these changes more or less the default.)

Larry I am going from memory

Larry I am going from memory here but I do believe you have to change the Drawing Options for a current drawing or past drawing.  System Options changes will only affect new drawings after you have made the SO changes.

System vs Drawing vs Project vs Finishing Options

Larry, there are actually 4 types of options. Drawing Options which only affect the current drawing. System Options which affect any new drawings you create. Project Options which affect all drawings in the current Project. This includes such items as Building Options. Building Options are kind of a hybrid in that there are no Drawing level Building Options. You set the defaults on the System level and any changes within a given project affect all drawings within that project. Contrast this with Layers which have a per drawing setup. The last type is Finishing Options which affect ALL drawings.

Wall Covering is one of those weird things that is a System Option and has no associated Drawing Option setting. For instance if you go into System Options⇒Finishing Options you will find a long list of items including Wallcovering Options. Any changes to any Finishing Options affect ALL drawings past, present, and future. I hope that in future versions of SoftPlan that all of the Finishing Options will be moved to the Project level just like Building Options. The current setup is very limiting on what you can do because as stated earlier if you make any changes it affects ALL drawings. I may have a special case on a drawing where the current Finishing Options are not appropriate. But I can't really change anything without affecting all other Projects.

Having said all that, if you make a change to the Drawing Options in a drawing and you want those options to now be your standard in new drawings you will need to make the same change in the System Options as well.

Thanks to both Bills.  I have

Thanks to both Bills.  I have been re-cycling most of my drawings from versions that may be 3 or 4 versions behind.  This is the first one that I have done in 2014.  Boy what a difference starting with fresh 2014 program.  Especially roofs.  Much much easier on everying.
