Saving model to 2d cuts off part of drawing
SoftPlan Version:
2012

I have recently been having an issue when I try to create a 2d roof plan or elevation plan. From the top view I save the roof plan as roof plan to begin editing. Once I open that 2d version the window is zoomed in and parts of the roof plan that do not fit the window are cut off. When I zoom out to see the whole drawing I might only have the middle part of the roof plan showing lines and the rest is gone. Same with the elevations. I just save a front elevation and the top half of the ridge is cut off. I checked the workspace limit on the new 2d files and they are more than big enough to fit the elevation and roof plan on.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Clipped Elevations

Hey Marty. When you save your roof or elevations do you have the entire roof or elevations showing on the screen? If you are zoomed in so that you do not have the entire drawing showing when you save the roof or elevations then anything not showing will be clipped off in the saved 2D drawing. Try selecting "Zoom Extent" prior to saving and see if that makes a difference.

Clipped elevations and roof plan

Yes,

I do have the full roof plan showing before saving. I hit zoom extents to see if it would zoom out further but it appears to be the same.

I attempted to attach the .spd file to this post but I guess its over the 1mb limit. It's 3,194 kb.

3,194 kb is HUGE for a SoftPlan file unless you have some imported images or something attached to it. Try putting it in a zip file and see if you can get the size down. If not then send me a private message and I'll give you my email address so you can email the project to me.

I forgot I had an image overlay of the floor plan sketch turned off. I removed it and got the file size down an incredible amount.

Thanks for looking at this Bill.

Clipping

Marty, I was able to save elevations and roof with no clipping. Perhaps the problem lies with the plan sketch that you had in the file? Did you try saving the elevations and roof after removing the plan sketch?

Clipping

Very odd, I did save it just now and redo the process but with no luck. I still get the clipping.

Must be in my system settings perhaps? It worked fine up until a few projects ago. If only I had a perfect memory to figure out what might have changed.

System Settings

I can't think of anything in System Settings that would cause that. Have you recently changed anything on your computer such as updating the video driver or changing some of the video driver settings? Also, are the Projects that have this problem started fresh or are they started from copies of other Projects? And lastly, do you have the same problem even with older projects that you created before the clipping problem started?

clipping

All of my projects have been starting from scratch. New drawings basically. Here is something interesting or possible more confusing. I opened the some of the first projects I created that use to work fine. Now they all have the clipping issue when I try to create the new 2d plans from the existing. However, if I start a new project then import the old files, the clipping works. If i import the newer files I still have the clipping issue. I have done some layer setups to have certain layers show up a certain way. I thought that may have something to do with it. So I imported the roof plans that are working properly, reset the layers to system then performed the process and I still got the same results. Old files imported into new works, new files imported into new does not. I created a new drawing inside this same project, drew a quick square building through on an auto roof, saved it and tried to make a 2d roof plan and I got the clips.

I have not changed any video settings or updates.

Clipping

Marty, that's a mystery. How about taking one of your projects that has the clipping and put it in a zip file and attach it here. Include everything in the project folder except for the Recovery folder. Make sure to include any sub-folders such as SoftView Cache.

The project is attached.

Thanks!

Clipping

Marty, I was able to generate and save a Front Elevation, Top Elevation, and roof Birdseye and none of them had any clipping. So it doesn't appear to be anything within the Project and I don't know of any System Options that would cause that. So my only suggestion is to try updating your video driver to the latest version and reset all the video driver settings back to their defaults. Other than that I don't have a clue what to do.

I have had this happen on

I have had this happen on occasion with the birdseye of the roof but only the roof.  It only happens once in awhile.

3D Material Files

I have one more thing to try. Did you at any point make any materials changes in Elevation and/or Birdseye and then save the materials using File-->Material File-->Save?

Try doing something. Close SoftPlan. Browse to C:\SoftPlan2012\3D\Material Files\Default and move all of the files to a backup location. Then from your SoftPlan Install DVD browse to the same location and copy the material files from the DVD to C:\SoftPlan2012\3D\Material Files\Default. Start up SoftPlan and see if that clears up the problem?

2D PLANS CLIPPING

I finally solved the issue Bill.

I completely uninstalled Softplan and reinstalled it. Seemed like my only option. I restored my previous files and everything works just fine.

Reinstalling

Wow, that would suck. But glad you got it working again.
