REScheck: do you provide them and do you use the SP export script?
SoftPlan Version:
2014 Plus

My contractors have always handled their own RESchecks so I have never done one.  However, I have homeowner (acting as their own contractor) asking me to do this.  I am curious if anyone here is using Softplan's export to REScheck.  If so, do you charge extra or is this part of your price?

I did a test export and the only thing I see is that I need to do a lot of setup to get my numbers to work.

I haven't had anyone ask me to do a REScheck report yet but I have looked it awhile back. One thing to keep in mind is that R-values for walls are a part of the wall definition and U-values for openings are part of the opening definition. As such, the values in your drawing will reflect the values as they were when you placed the object. So making changes to the System Wall Definitions or the System Library Openings will have no effect on existing walls or opening values.

Even if you reset your Drawing Library Openings to the System Openings your existing openings will still have the old values. This means that you would need to edit each existing opening in a drawing and change the U-value from the Selections tab or delete and reinsert the opening in order to get the updated values.

Also remember that editing one opening and making changes to its U-value will not change any of the other openings, even if they are the exact same type of opening.

Of course once you get everything set up correctly you won't have to do any of this for any new drawings you create. So I would recommend getting everything set up correctly and tested in advance of actually drawing your customer plans.

Having said all that, I haven't looked into how you would even know what the R-values and U-values should actually be for any given wall or opening so I guess that would be the first step.

Thanks Bill.  In addition to

Thanks Bill.  In addition to setting up my walls and openings, I need to actually use the correct walls and openings.  I have a habit of just drawing all walls the same.  In other words, my exterior garage walls are the same as the regular exterior walls.  So when I did the REScheck export, it sent all of those walls to REScheck.

Yep, and don't forget about foundation and ceiling insulation as well. I'm sure I'll have to learn how to correctly configure all these items sometime in the future so if you come across any good resources for how to do all that how about passing them on.

I tried to us this feature

I tried to us this feature when it first came out in v2012.  Found it fairly worthless...never was able to get it to work properly.   Not worth wasting my time when any insulation salesman around here will do it for free.
