Plan sets & page numbering
SoftPlan Version:
2014

Hi

Just installed upgrade to 2014 this week and trying to set-up things before I really get started. Not sure about switching from multi-drawings to plan sets but reading different post on the 2 sites has helped.

At this point, a main concern is that to get our plans registered with the city as Master Plans (I work for a builder so registering our standard plan help to speed up permit applications), we have to incorporate all options. I use building options a lot has I incorporate on the same plan the plan for standard & corner lots (corner lots usually have brick and more windows on the side), standard & optional layouts and standard & optional garage. Therefore, for the same plan, I have many permutations.

The problem is that for the city you can't have a plan registered with the same page identification. Presently, with multi-drawings, I have my page numbers connected to the buildings options so I can have for example page A6, A6a, A6 corner, A6a corner, ... all coming from the same page. Is there any way this is possible with plan sets has I can't do a set-up for every page permutations?

Thanks

Plan Sets and Page Numbering

Hi Yvon and welcome to SoftPlanTuts.

Let's address this in a couple steps.

1) Set up your Plan Sets using Groups. A group can be used on your Title Block to show a common word, letter, or number prefix to the page number. The Information Stamp @PLAN_SET_PAGE_NUMBER will bring will create a page number consisting of the Group name and the Page number. So if you create Groups A, C, and D you can have your pages automatically numbered A1, A2, A3, C1, C2, C3, D1, D2, D3, etc. Just drag your Pages into the order you want them under each Group name and the Pages will be numbered accordingly. In this example the Groups are the Letters and the Pages under each Group are automatically given a combination of the Group Name and the order they are placed in the Group. This is then translated to the Title Block by the afore mentioned Information Stamp.

2) For the corner designation you can use another Information Stamp. For this example I will use @PROJECT_MODEL. In your title Block place @PLAN_SET_PAGE_NUMBER (right justify) @PROJECT_MODEL (left justify) next to each other so that you see @PLAN_SET_PAGE_NUMBER @PROJECT_MODEL. You will need to do some experimenting to get the alignment where you want it on the Title Block. Next select Model-->Project Information. Alternatively, you could place the Information Stamps such that the Model is under the Page Number. In the Model field enter the name of the version of the plan you have currently set up with your Building Options. So if you enter the word Corner in the Model space you could get A1 Corner, A2, Corner, etc. When you change to a different Building Option just change the Model name.

Thanks Bill for the reply

Unfortunately, this is a lot more elaborate than presently in multi-drawings where I can just select all applicable buildings options and that sets the options and identifications in all title blocks? It's a lot more critical when your constantly alternating building options.

It's really not that elaborate once you get it set up. In practice you change your building options and then change the name of the model and you are done. The Model name is automatically placed on the title block. All page numbering is automatic. You set up the Information Stamps on the Title Block so that is a one time deal. Groups give the page lettering and the location under the group creates the page number.
