Parametric Sections + Elevations

I was wondering if Softplan was developing the software to introduce fully parametric sections and elevations. I have a very hard time understanding the reason why we are "generating" section views and elevation views and completely getting away from all the info contained in the model. I feel that when changes are made to the model, they should change in the section and the elevation views without having to disconnect and regenerate everytime. Revit, Chief Architect, Archicad, Vectorworks, etc. all use this model when working with sections and elevations. I enjoy designing and exploring options in 3D during design development, and not just generating the section when I'm ready for CD's. Thoughts?

SoftPlan 2014 is a step in that direction. See this Forum post for an example.  Rendered Elevations  You can create parametric cross sections, exterior elevations, interior elevations, renderings, 3D views, etc. As the plan updates so do these views. However the quality isn't quite as good as a generated drawing because these views are essentially graphics rather than actual vector drawings. And you can't do things like add paint or symbols to detail the drawing out. What you get is what you would see in a 3D view based what is actually on the plan. These views are great for visualizing during the design process but should probably be replaced with the generated drawings once the design is finalized and you are creating the construction set.

Thanks,

Thanks,

What I'm more wondering about is actually creating the final CD's as vector drawings off the model as it updates, instead of actually generating the drawing and "disconnecting" the model again. Maybe in the near future they will release something like this.

I've never used any of these other programs you are talking about. If they are truly parametric how do they handle things line being able to paint the elevations or add items such as pitch indicators? Are these automatically added as part of the parametric elevations?

The paint/ pitch indicators

The paint/ pitch indicators are like 2d symbols. The paint works similar to the way Softplan; by calculating boundaries. But that is not the main way that textures showing on the vector drawings. They are connected to the wall type and show whatever standard 2d texture you choose for that wall type. There is no need to regenerate the paint lines, as they are connected to the actual wall texture.
