Years ago I had problems with random extensions "self extending" themselves. It seemed to go away. Now it sometimes is happening again. Anybody know why?
I suspect you have multiple extension lines in the same location. Try doing a Cleanup, Ctrl+C, and see if the extension lines clean up correctly. If they do not then it is most likely a double extension line. Erase the ones that are not adjusting properly and I bet you will discover that there is another extension line in the same place. Only extension lines that have a dimension connected to them will automatically clean up.
What is causing the double extensions? 2 walls in the same location. Walls butting together end to end rather than being continuous. Moving things around. Failure to delete an extension when it is no longer needed. Merging drawings. Pasting one drawing into another. Copying walls that already have extensions on them. Using a combination of Auto Dimension and manually inserting extensions. Any number of causes why you would end up with multiple extensions in the same location.

Wow, Paragraph 2 describes my typical method of operation all the time.
I have had the same problem and have not known why. I'll have to check out what Bill is advising the next time I have one. I will say I do like the self adjusting extensions when moving the dimension line. Will a clean up automatically adjust them? I haven't noticed.
Hey Bill. Yes, Cleanup will automatically adjust extension lines to meet up with the dimension lines. But if you have 2 extensions in the same location it is possible to have only one of them attached to a dimension. If that is the case then only the one attached to a dimension will automatically adjust while the other will not.
