Export Plan Set to PDF Locked
SoftPlan Version:
2014 Plus

My local building department is now accepting electronic plan submittals. I am using plan sets in my projects. When I export a plan set to pdf, the document is locked. The building department requires the pdf to be unlocked so they can highlight, make comments, etc. to the document. I think I need to 'remove security' from the pdf but that button is grayed out. Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks, Dennis

Locked PDF

Dennis, it sounds like you are "printing" to PDF using PDF printer software and the printing software is adding security to the output. If you will Export to PDF you should not have a problem. Right click on the name of the Plan Set and select "Export to PDF". SoftPlan's PDF export does not add any security.

Hi Bill, I am using the

Hi Bill, I am using the "Export to PDF" function directly from softplan just as you describe it to create the pdf.  None of the markup functions in adobe will work on the pdf.  When I open the pdf and try to "unlock' it, the "Remove Security" button is grayed out.  I really don't understand why the building department wants to mark up my plans anyway.  My plans are "always" perfect and I never make a mistake. lol

Attach File

Dennis, can you attach an example of one of your exported PDF files here? What are you using to read the PDF files? Acrobat Reader? Adobe Acrobat? Some other PDF reader? What version?

I did an export and opened it in Adobe Acrobat. The security page is as I showed above. There is no security at all added to my PDF files.
