Default size for interior trim?
SoftPlan Version:
2014

The architect who draws the plans has asked me to create some new Trim styles.  He would like an option when drawing to place in a room:

4 1/4" Crown

2 1/4" Base

3 1/4" Base

5 1/4" Base

I opened the baseboard and crown libraries and I do not see an option to change the default trim sizes.  They can only be changed by trimming out the room in 'Interior' mode, right clicking on the trim's polygon in each room, and then changing the height manually in the attributes.  Is there a more efficient way to do this?

Thanks -

Trim

You can create new trim profiles of the sizes that you want. System Options⇒System Library type=Profiles. If you click on baseboard under profiles you will see that all the profiles face to the right. Your new profiles will need to face right as well. Just draw new profiles the correct size and shape using lines and arcs then turn them into Profiles in the System Library.

In addition to using Interior Mode you can also use Room Mode. When using Room Mode you can define entire rooms including wall coverings, base, crown, flooring, etc. with a single click. Then if you click on the Room Properties button you will get a listing of every room and what is included in that room. You can go down the list and change items as needed. You can even select multiple items and change them all at once.

If you wish to change the defaults for each room or add more rooms to the list you do that at System Options⇒System Library type=Rooms. Select a Room name and select Edit Symbol. A window will open that will allow you to define your defaults for every room in the list. If you want to add a new room select One Step.

I figured out how to create a new trim profile.  It is showing in my system library under 'crown molding'.  For some reason the arc I drew doesn't show up, but that doesn't really matter.  When I go to 'interior' mode and click "Crown Molding" button at the top to draw the molding in a room, it isn't there.  How do I get it to show up as an option?  I already tried clicking 'reset libraries' under drawing options.

Thanks

Finishing Options

You need to assign your new crown to one of the Finishing Options. System Options⇒Finishing Options⇒Crown Mold Options. Click on the name at the location you want to assign the crown. Rename it and select the library and profile name of the crown. This is a System Option that does not travel with the drawing. You will need to make the same Finishing Options assignments to all computers if you want them to all match up.

Hey Bill,

Hey Bill,

Are there no 3D models associated with the molding profiles like doors?

Profiles

Nope. SoftPlan creates the 3D by extruding the profile along a path. The path is the 3rd "D".
