Is there anywhere to find a tutorial or text on how to use these tools. The manual is very limited. I'm trying to create a 45 degree on the corners of my deck. Thanks so much. Happy Holidays!!
Try using the Chamfer tool to clip the corners. Chamfer can be found on the Tools tab. Decks are polygons and the Chamfer tool can be used to clip the corners of any polygon shape.

I can't seem to get this command to work properly. Any further direction? the manual is very shy on direction. Thanks
Chamfer is a very simple tool to use. Simply select Chamfer then select 2 different edges that you want to create a chamfer between. You will then get a popup that asks how far you want the chamfer to be and when you select OK the chamfer is created. Chamfer can be used on any polygon or on shapes such as two lines, as long as the lines or polygon edges are not parallel.
In the example I showed above I simply drew out a square deck. Then I selected Chamfer and clicked on the top and left edges to create one chamfer. Then top and right, bottom and right, and finally bottom and left. Each selection pair produced a chamfer between the existing edges, cutting them back the distance set in the chamfer dialog.
I eased the deck and redid it. It worked easily. I must have had an extra something in the deck. Thanks so much. That was real easy. Your help is much appreciated.
Hey Jason, I just discovered you live in Newmarket !
I used to live in Newmarket from 1976 to 1980 in Quaker Hills near Yonge & Mulock on Curry Cres.
Where are you located ?
I'm up in Gravenhurst now, been here since 1980. Maybe we could have a coffee sometime and talk Softplan.
I know where that is. I have a few houses in that area of Town. I also was an employee for Newmarket for 10 years. I live near Mt. Albert and work for Stouffville now. Just trying to persue a hobby Drawings/Plans. If you are ever in the area I would like to chat over coffee about softplan...lol I am learning. Old school with the pencil was more fun at this point...lol Email me and I'll send you my number. firstname.lastname@example.org
