Copying a layout
SoftPlan Version:
2018 Plus

Hello,

I am in the process of designing three attached Townhouse units. I have one unit completed

and would like to copy that design for the other units. What is the easiest way to go about this?

Thank you,

Mike

Copy

Hello Mike. Are you asking how to make a copy or are you asking how to best handle a multi-unit project? If you are just wanting to make a copy then do you want the copy on the same drawing or on a different drawing. I would really need much more information about what you are actually trying to accomplish before I could give a better answer.

Copying

Hey Mike. There is copying and then there is copying. If you wish to simply copy the unit to a different location on the same page you can switch to the Move tab and select Copy Block. If you want to copy the unit to a completely different drawing file you can use File Save As. But what I was really asking you is what do you wish to accomplish. Not what do you want to do. If all you are wanting is a copy then select one of the above methods. If what you are wanting is to take what you have drawn, duplicate it a couple times so that you have a complete building made up of 3 identical units all on the same page then that is what I need to know. Also, when printing your drawings do you want to keep the units separate on three different pages or do you want to have just one page that contains all three units. All of this information is needed before I can make a definitive recommendation for how to proceed.

When printing I would like to have one page that shows all three units.

Hopefully this is enough info.

Thank you,

Copying

I would start out by first using Copy Block to make a couple copies off to the side of the original. Then edit each version of the unit and make any changes necessary such as changing exterior walls to interior walls where the units are to join. Then determine exactly where the units are to be in relation to each other and use Move Block to move them to the proper location. Finally you might want to erase exterior walls that are just butting together and replace them with one continuous wall. This is a rather simplified explanation since I don't know what your skill level is with SoftPlan nor have I actually seen the unit you wish to copy. Depending on your requirements this explanation may be all you need or it may just be a starting place.
