Can we re-use plan sets on other projects?

One of the nice things about Multi-Drawings is being able to reuse them from another project.  I can copy/paste the files into the new project folder and long as my drawings are named the same (i.e. Front, Rear, Right, Left, Site, Foundation, etc), the multi-drawings are already setup.  The only tweaking I really need to do is to move things around to fit the pages.

When plan sets are open there

When plan sets are open there are no save as or copy availiable, so I'm thinking to save the planset page tpoanotherdrawing  is not doable.    But if your talking about just using the title block

the title block is saved in the same place that systems drawing were and are called title blocks  ,   This link explains plan sets.

I'm enjoying them, and is way streamline for me over multi drawings.

Thanks.  I've used plan sets

Thanks.  I've used plan sets on a couple of projects.  There are some nice improvements over multi drawings, but there are also some drawbacks.  I don't use system drawings.  I prefer all of my projects to be self contained.  I just copy my border into the project file and set it up that way.

As for the multi-drawings, I use the method that Bill suggested a while back on this site.  For example, I created a set of multi-drawings for a single story slab house.  Then I'd copy those MDs to the project folder.  Once the plan was complete I would open the MDs and they were already populated with the drawing files b/c I used the same naming convention as the previous projects.

It would be nice if Plan Sets were the same way.

Reusing Plan Sets

You can use a similar method for reusing Plan Sets.

  • Take one of your projects that you have set up with Plan Sets and make a copy of the entire folder.
  • For the copy rename both the folder and the Project file to something like Arch C Setup.
  • Erase the SoftView Cache and Recovery folders from this copy.
  • Open Arch C Setup and replace the drawing files with blank drawings. You can do this by creating a new drawing and then use Save As to copy over your drawing files.
  • Leave your detail pages and border as they were. You just want to clear the floor plans, elevations, etc. but keep their file names in place.

Now when you want to start a new project just make a copy of Arch C Setup and rename the folder and Project file and you should be good to go.

Plan sets are completely

Plan sets are completely worthless to me and multi drawings don't export to AutoCAD format without major problems....I have a huge stack of projects that I can't finish and get paid on. Softplan screwed me on this upgrade

Exporting

Sam, let's take a look at this and see if we can find a workable solution. What are the problems you are experiencing with your exports? I would like to get a copy of one of your projects so I an see if I can find something that will work for you.

Single drawing exports fine.

Single drawing exports fine. Exporting a multi completely locks up SoftPlan. Tech is aware of the problem...no clue when it will be fixed

Exporting

Even so, my offer still stands.

Exporting

Sam, I sent you a private message with my email address.

I just did some experimenting and I think I have something that will at least get you going again until SoftPlan gets the Multi-Drawing export sorted out.

Open up your Multi-Drawing and click on the Edit tab. Select Convert to Shapes. This will convert your entire Multi into 1 single drawing made up of shapes. Give this new drawing a new name and save. Then you should be able to export this new drawing out to DWG. I would recommend turning off paint prior to Converting to Shapes if you have a lot of paint on the drawing because it will create a huge file otherwise.

The weirdest thing going on

The weirdest thing going on here now.   I tried to export to DXF which worked fine.  Called the engineer to make sure he was ok with that....a little extra work he says but he can live with it.   Tried one more time to export to DWG and it worked like it always had in the past.   I haven't done anything different to my machine and haven't gotten any patches recently.  Pretty sure its not a computer problem on my end since softplan tech mentioned they were aware there was a export problem with multi drawings and were working on a solution.   Just finished up one project to get out to client tomorrow and working on another.  I guess I should call tech tomorrow and let them know my problem seems ok now.

Its getting even more

Its getting even more interesting this morning.   I am back to working on the project that started causing all my problems last week.  I finished up one project last night and had no issues exporting to DWG.  This project is the same as last week...start to export...locks up softplan...then shuts down.   I'm beginning to think maybe there is something corrupted on this particular project rather than other issues although softplan said they were away of export problems.

DWG Export

Hi Sam, I think it is a glitch in softplan.  My computer locks up every single time I export to dwg.

Just out of curiosity... is

Just out of curiosity... is the drawing file one that was created in 2012?  I have been having a bunch of problems with files that originated in SP 2012.  I haven't tried to export to dwg, but I've had a bunch of random crashes.

New Patch

Sam, there was a new patch released today. Try updating to the latest version and see if that fixes your export problems.
