BATCH PLOTTING
SoftPlan Version:
12

My pdf's keep getting cut off when attempting to batch plot. It looks as if the layout gets shifted left one half page.

What am I missing? I did not purchase ReView and have installed free pdf creators. Individual pdf's work just fine.

Print Quality

Hey Marty. Your post says this is about version 12 but your profile says you are using 2012 so I will assume you are talking about 2012. When setting up your PDF writer for your prints try setting the print quality to 600 dpi and see if that fixes your problem.

Printing

Thanks for the response Bill,

Yes I did mean 2012. I do have the dpi set to 600. One thing I did notice is that if I go into page setup and setup the sheet size it does not save. Every time I go back into page setup it defaults back to letter. I am also curious why I need to select "position print window" while making individual pdf's but not when I use the batch plot feature.

Batch Printing

When you print a page in SoftPlan using File⇒Print you have the option to either Center Drawing on Page or Position Print Window. When using Batch Print these options are not available. Instead, SoftPlan automatically uses the Center Drawing on Page method.

Because Batch Print centers the drawing on the page you have to have your drawings set up so that there is nothing outside of the area that is to be printed. I have my borders set to be the correct size for various paper sizes. Also note that I copy the appropriate border into each project and add the borders to the drawing using Multi-Drawings. I make sure that everything fits within the border. If there is something outside the border then I have to make a choice of using a larger border size, and thus printing at a larger paper size, moving things around so that they fit within the border, or scaling down the drawing so that it fits within the border. As long as everything is within the border then Batch Print works flawlessly.

From what you are describing I would guess that you have some item(s) that are outside of the area you want to print. So when SoftPlan centers the page it is taking into account these outside items and that is what is shifting everything over. If that is the case then to be able to use Batch Print you will need to either move or erase these items or change scales or something to assure that everything is located within the area you wish to print.

Yes, the Page Setup defaulting back to Letter size is quite annoying. That is one of the reasons I love the new Plan Sets in 2014 so much. All of the problems associated with multi-drawings and setting up print settings each time you want to print are all eliminated. You set up the Plan Set for the size of paper you will be printing to and you never have to mess with it again. Want to print both 1/4" sets and scaled down sets on letter size paper? Not a problem. Just set up an additional Letter size plan set. Select the appropriate set and print.

You nailed it Bill

You nailed it Bill. Had objects outside the border on almost all sheets. I am really new to Softplan so these nuances throw me. Coming from AutoCad everything is based from a 0,0 coordinate. Never would of crossed my mind Softplan functions this way. You saved me tons of frustration!

Thanks so much, I really appreciate it!

Batch Printing

Glad to have been able to help Marty. Center Drawing on Page works quite nicely and I use it exclusively. Or at least I did in 2012 and earlier. I never use Position Print Window. If you have your borders exactly centered and everything is kept within the borders you never have to mess with selecting a print window. And your borders will be in the same exact location from page to page.

Batch Print

When I batch print it centers the drawings. Because my borders are setup for a larger margin opposite the title blocks I found that if  I draw a paint break around my Title pages with the correct margins I can get the results I would as if I did a single page print.

I have never used Center

I have never used Center Drawing on Page until I read this thread.  I did yesterday and wish I had known this years ago.
