I am going to try the 3D mouse but wonder what type works with SoftPlan.
Also wondering if it works the same way in Sketchup as in SoftPlan.
Any of the 3Dconnexion mice will work. I've been using the SpaceNavigator with Sketchup for years and love it. SoftPlan 2016 added 3Dconnexion support and it works well but not quite as well as it does for Sketchup. The only problem with SoftPlan support is that the rotational movement is WAY too slow for my taste. If SoftPlan would just tweak their driver and speed up the rotational speed I would be supremely happy.

I just did a test in SoftPlan to see how long it takes to spin a house completely around using the 3D mouse. It takes roughly 35 seconds to spin a house. In Sketchup that same house can be spun completely around in less than 1 second. 35 seconds might be ok if you are showing a client the outside of the house but it is way too slow for work. I will normally just use my mouse wheel to turn the model around and then the 3D mouse to fine tune the camera. Using just my regular mouse I can spin the house around in less than 1 second in SoftPlan. So SoftPlan is capable of the same performance as Sketchup if SoftPlan would just do some more tweaks on the driver.
Thanks for the input Bill. I'm going togo ahead and order that one and try to get into sketchup a bit more.
One thing I've been wondering about is if I can configure Sketchupmouse movement to behave a little bit more like SoftPlan when orbiting and doing 3D work. I'm kind of used to the way the mouse works in SoftPlan, and remember that Sketchup was different and it was hard to shift back and forth.
You will love it. It works the same in both programs so there is no confusion. Well other than the slow rotation speed in SoftPlan but other than that they are virtually identical.
I'm with you Bill. The 3d mouse movement in SoftPlan is way too slow.Hopefully they will speed it up someday.
