P/T sillplate "Error in Material Formula"
SoftPlan Version:
2016

Hello all,

When generating my Softlist report, I'm getting a warning message for P/T sillplate, saying there is an error in material formula, and that 'sillpate" is not a variable, global variable, or constant.

I've attached a PDF of the lumber formula.

There's a Youtube video specifically on setting up P/T sillplate to count lineally in 16' pieces. I followed that video, but I am still getting this warning message.

I get the exact same message for Floor Ring Joists as well.

Any idea on what the problem might be? Thanks!!

Lumber

The Lumber formula has two different methods.

Method 1: omit the word "lineal". When you omit lineal then you must supply a quantity. Example --- lumber(1, sillplate_len, sillplate_thick, sillplate_width, ptreated)

Method 2: use lineal --- lumber ( sillplate_len, sillplate_thick, sillplate_width, 16', ptreated, lineal)

Modifying your formula to conform to one of these two methods should make it work.

Still getting same message.

Thanks for getting back to me Bill.

I tried your suggestions and I'm still getting the same message.

Does it matter what my Lumber Format is set as? I currently have the units set to "each", with "Price lumber as" set to 16'.

Another formula?

I don't see anything in your second formula that would be causing an error. The first place I would look would be to see if there is another formula that is throwing the error. Perhaps another formula with the same name. There is no variable in either your first or second formula named "sillplate" so that is why I suspect you have another formula somewhere that is actually throwing the error.

Can't find another one.

I've looked and I can't see any other formula with the same name, or with a variable in it called "sillplate."

Not sure if this is relevant, but both P/T Sill Plate and Floor Ring Joist have disappeared from the generated report.

No clue

I've got no clue. Nothing in the two formulas you showed me references a non-existing variable named sillplate. The only thing I can think of would be that perhaps you are editing formulas in one Material Definition but running a different Material Definition when generating the report. Each set of Materials Definitions has its own unique formulas so changing a formula in one Material Definition only affects that Material Definition and not any others. If not that then I don't know what to tell you. Maybe exit and restart SoftPlan and see if maybe there is something lingering in memory that needs to be cleared out.

video

Where is this Youtube video you said you were watching. Maybe I can determine from it what you may have done wrong or what may be incorrect in the video.

Dunno

I don't know. Nothing in the video nor in what you have shown me should be throwing that error. All I can do is guess that there is something else you have done that you are not showing or that you are editing one Materials Definitions file but running a different one. Without having access to your drawing files and Materials Definitions file there is nothing more I can come up with.

I'll keep looking

I'm sure it's some other error on my end... I'll keep looking and keep you posted.

Thanks again for all your help.
