Importing 3D textures from SketchUp
SoftPlan Version:
2014

Hi

Bit of a novice with SketchUp but trying to import in Softplan some 3D textures from Realstone Systems.

When I open it in SketchUp, multiple textures are on the same page. How do I import them separately in Softplan?

Thanks

Sketchup Textures

In Sketchup materials the images are embedded within the Sketchup file rather than linked to as they are with SoftPlan. So the trick is to get the images out of Sketchup.

To do this you will first need to tell Sketchup what image editor you use such as Photoshop or Paint. In Sketchup select Window⇒Preferences⇒Applications and specify your image editor.

Next you edit the face in the Sketchup model that contains the image. You might have to double click on the face a few times to get it to select it if it is within a group or component. You want just the face selected, not the shapes that define the face. Once the face is highlighted right click on the face and select Texture⇒Edit Texture Image. The image will then be extracted to your image editor specified above and you can save it from there.

Followed the steps

Hi Bill! Thanks for your help above. I was just trying to figure this out today. I have followed your instructions and saved the texture image out of Paint and placed it in my textures folder. When I select the image from within Softplan, when editing the surface of a wall, the texture is displayed as just a solid color. Its the same color as the textured image, but its not the image (siding). I checked my settings and I indeed have DISPLAY TEXTURE selected and not DISPLAY COLOR. The image I'm trying to use is of a Certainteed siding product. I used to be able to go to Certainteed's website and download texture images directly from them, while browsing and viewing different options. I downloaded and used handfulls of texture images that way and never experienced what I have described above. Unfortunately Certainteed has made changes to their website and I cannot simply download directly from them. Just today I put some time into trying to find a solution and found some siding textures on the 3D Warehouse website. I'd really appreciate it if you have anything to offer in the way of a suggestion! Thanks, Bill!  - Nick

Hey Nick. Can you provide screen shots of your texture siding that is not working. Like what I am showing here.
