This is something I've always debated. My biggest contractor is one of my best friends. We get along great and haven't had any problems. However, I didn't do his personal house. Largely because it was a style I don't normally design. But mostly I didn't want to deal with any possible setbacks in our friendship and business relationship over a single house. It worked out b/c he got the style he wanted, and I helped him along the way with the layout and other suggestions. I've dealt with many people who are first time home builders and dealing with them is always an interesting process as you guys know. However, dealing with close friends is a different animal all together. Until recently I've been able to avoid designing a custom home for any close friends. Lately, I've had a couple of friends ask about plans. So.. anyone have any stories (good or bad) about dealing with friends or family?
